Little Red Riding Hood Doll & Room Accessories

I made the first homemade Christmas present of 2012 yesterday. I feel so behind from previous years, so I am going to be working hard the next few weeks to get everything made on my list.

The first completed gift was a cute Little Red Riding Hood doll I stitched up for Janna using the tutorial and pattern from The Long Thread.

I used red felt for the cape, cream felt for the face, and some scrap blue fabric from a dress I made for Janna when she was a baby.

The tutorial called for the face and hair to be made with embroidery floss. However, I decided to sew on brown felt for the hair and use fabric pens for the eyes and mouth. I also used rid-rac instead of crocheted trim to accent the cape.

I am happy with how the doll turned out and I hope Janna is excited about it on Christmas morning.

The tutorial didn’t show what the back of the doll looked like so I thought I would show you that it is just one piece of fabric.

In addition to the doll Janna is also getting a copy of this Little Red Riding Hood book. It is really cute.

Some of you have been around long enough that you might remember the pictures I shared of Janna’s “room”. I wrote several posts about how I had turned a small nook in our master bedroom into a “room” for Janna.

I had made a crib skirt and valance using a Little Red Riding Hood print to accent a red polka dot fabric. A month or so ago Janna got to be moved into a big girl room and I kept with the theme of Little Red Riding Hood.

We gave Janna’s dresser to her brothers and I painted a smaller dresser for her. I printed out some Little Red clipart and mod podged it to some old wooden knobs. She loves them, and I love how I was able to make an old dresser look much cuter with just a little effort.

I also used Photoshop to transform some clipart into wall art for Janna. She always points to it whenever we are in her room. Who knew I could create art? Thank you computer!
