Coupons. I have used them but only to save 50 cents here or a dollar there.
Despite the fact that I read several deal blogs regularly and see all of the ways people use coupons combined with sales to save big bucks on their grocery bills, I am not savvy when it comes to saving money with coupons.
I do try to be frugal with our grocery budget by growing a garden, shopping at Aldi, buying generic, purchasing basic ingredients, and making many things from scratch. Even so, I would still love to use coupons to cut our costs even more.
So, what’s a gal who doesn’t subscribe to the local paper and cooks mostly from scratch to do in order to use coupons?

I am beginning to think the author Beth Montgomery of ingoodcents.com wrote this book just for me. Really. I had no idea just how much I didn’t know about coupons.
So, what is Online Couponing in a Day for Dummies all about? Well, it contains 100 pages of couponing tips, techniques, and ideas for saving money. It shows how to find, use, and combine money-saving coupons, and keep them organized. Plus, it includes FREE extras online, including checklists and more.
One of the main things I learned from this book is that there are many more sources for legitimate online coupons than I ever knew about. I have even found coupons for items I actually use.
Thanks to the straightforward information about coupons I decided to get right to work finding and using coupons.
Two weeks ago I saved $7.25 using coupons on the items pictured below.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to become a deal blogger, but I thought you might like to see what I purchased with coupons. The original cost of everything pictured was $21.32 which means I purchased it for $14.07. The gluten-free pretzels were the most expensive item, but they were worth it to give my son a fun treat.
On Friday I shopped at Kroger and saved $8.00 using coupons. I took my couponing one step further on this trip by combining some awesome sales with coupons. I saved even more that way.
It was fun to watch the dollar amount go down when the cashier swiped my coupons. I definitely intend to keep trying to find coupons and save money on our grocery bill. I am just going to take baby steps and will definitely refer to the book for more help.
