Last month I stopped by our local Goodwill store. I had just repainted our dining room and was looking to see if there were any inexpensive items I could use for decorating. I found a cork board for about $2. While I didn’t mind the way it looked, I decided it was a perfect candidate for a makeover.
As you can see from the picture above, the cork board I purchased had a golden finish on the frame, a floral picture at the top and plain cork at the bottom.
I took the whole thing apart and decided to spray paint the frame white. Then, I covered the cork with some fabric I had in my stash. Next, I used the floral print as a template to cut an 8×10 picture of my children to the right size. Finally, I put everything back together.
My new cork board is now hanging on the wall beside our back door and is a great place to post important information. Plus, I love that there is a picture of my kids on that wall now.
I wanted to give you a closer look at the thumb tacks. I used the flat type of thumb tacks and hot glued buttons to the top. The buttons added a fun touch to otherwise boring thumb tacks.
Turning one man’s junk into my treasure is always fun for me. What’s not to love about inexpensively decorating my home and get to be crafty all at the same time. :) Do you enjoy projects like this?
