Clean Kitchen Days: The Plan

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking for my family. Lately I have felt like things aren’t organized and not as clean as I would like. My kitchen could really use some TLC.

I have decided not to wait until spring to do a thorough cleaning. Who wants to be stuck inside deep cleaning their house when the weather is nice? I don’t, so I am going to do my “spring cleaning” this winter, and I am starting with the kitchen.

Based on all of the things I hope to accomplish, I have decided to give myself 10 days to get the job done right. I don’t want to spend 3 or 4 hours in one day, but thought that breaking up the job into manageable tasks might make it easier and even, dare I say, fun.

What do I hope to accomplish, above and beyond my normal kitchen chores, during these two weeks? Here’s my list.

  • Day 1: Come up with a plan.
  • Day 2: Clean and organize all drawers.
  • Day 3: Clean and organize all cabinets.
  • Day 4: Clean and organize countertops.
  • Day 5: Wash walls and wall decor.
  • Day 6: Wash all cabinets, wood trim and table and chairs.
  • Day 7: Clean the oven and toaster oven.
  • Day 8: Clean the microwave and dishwasher.
  • Day 9: Clean the refrigerator.
  • Day 10: Scrub the floor

Maybe you would like to give your kitchen a thorough cleaning, too. If you would, then be sure to check back each day to let us know how you are doing. I will be sharing recipes for homemade cleaners and some before and after pictures as well.

I’m afraid to show before pics of my kitchen… I spend a lot of time in it but it doesn’t look like I do.

Well, it probably looks like you spend a lot of time cooking in it like mine does. :) I’m anxious to get started reorganizing and cleaning. You don’t have to share before pictures if you don’t want to.

    Hi Jackie!
This sounds like a good little task…I’ve got a list as long as my arm of things I need to be doing before the weather gets so nice and all I can do is be outside!
I do have the advantage of living in Texas…so even now, I’m able to get some outside things done; but when SUMMER COMES… I’m going to be inside…trying to stay cool! I hope to schedule some of my task around my weather !

I like your list…I may play along and leave some comments for you. Don’t know if I’ll be posting about any of it…we’ll see!

I understand about the long list of things to do. I didn’t know where to start, but decided that since I spend so much time in the kitchen it would be a good place.

I do imagine you have quite different weather than I do here in the Midwest, so working inside when it is too bad to be outside makes sense, whenever that is. I will appreciate your comments if you do decide to follow along.

I like this idea of giving yourself 10 days to get it done right. I might have to implement that for our dining room.

Well, I am usually someone who tries to do it all in one day, can’t get it done in one day, and then it goes unfinished until I get motivated again. So, I decided to break the deep cleaning up into smaller tasks like I did for my goal series before Christmas. Goodluck with your dining room. :)
