Clean Kitchen Days: Clean the Floor & Light Fixtures

Today was my final cleaning task in my two week series of thoroughly cleaning my kitchen. Is it spotless? No. Keeping my kitchen clean is a never-ending task. However, I do feel better now that everything has been deep cleaned. Now, it will just be about maintaining a respectable level of cleanliness. :)

This evening I swept and mopped my kitchen floor. This isn’t anything out of the ordinary, but I did want to share how I mop my floor. I use my homemade all-purpose cleaner and a cloth my mom made for me.

I get the cloth wet and put it on my mop. Then I spritz the floor with my cleaner and mop it up. Much easier than a bucket and wet mop. Plus, I don’t have the harmful chemicals that are used in the commercial cleaning cloths.

I usually mop once a week, but probably could every single day due to the mess 5 kids make. How often do you mop your kitchen floor?

One other thing I did that I hadn’t remembered to put on my master cleaning list was to clean all of the light fixtures in my kitchen. I just used a wet rag to clean them.

If you would like to make your own all-purpose natural cleaner here is how. Fill a spray bottle half full of white vinegar and then add water to fill. Add 10-20 drops of an essential oil of your choice, replace the nozzle, and give the bottle a shake. You can use this cleaner for just about any cleaning job you might have from washing your counters to mopping your floor.

Thanks for hanging out with me while I have cleaned my kitchen the past two weeks. If you aren’t repulsed by what you saw then I consider you my true friends. :) Have a great night!

I used to use vinegar and oils but water bottles were hard to come by here. I look forward to starting up soon. I have a book on natural cleaning but it was an ebook and it was on my old computer, it crashed. :-(

It is so much cheaper and they aren’t hard to make as you are aware. I hope you can procure some supplies soon. What recipes did you lose that you really wanted to have? Maybe I have some I could post to help you out.

what do the essential oils do in regards to cleaning power? Are they simply for scent, to cover up the vinegar smell? Simply curious. I understand that Tea Tree Oil ( I think that’s the one ) is a natural germ killer. Thank-you.

Well, they do make the cleaner smell better, but they also have other benefits. Tea tree oil is antibacterial and helps cut mold. Lavender, eucalyptus, and oregano essential oils have similar properties. Citrus oils are great degreasers. Essential oils are very concentrated and potent. They really do make a difference when added to natural cleaning recipes like the one I shared in this post. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can be of more help.
