I thought it might be fun to crochet a different 12 inch crochet square each month this year. At the end of the year I plan to put them together into an afghan.
First, I chose a pattern on Ravelry and found some yarn in my stash. The pattern called for worsted weight yarn, and I used Red Heart brand. Then I got to work.
Of course, I couldn’t make just one square. Plus, I thought it might be kind of a small afghan with only 12 squares.
I am excited to see what the finished afghan will look like, but I am going to try hard to only crochet 2 (different) blocks each month. I should end up with a 6 foot by 4 foot afghan if I make 24 total squares.
Since the squares were fairly easy to crochet, I decided to make 2 more squares with different colors. I was having so much fun making these squares that I decided I will keep going with this pattern and colors to make another afghan. I am not sure who it will be for, but I am sure I will give it away to someone. That’s the fun part. :)
If you want to know any more of the particulars, I have put my notes for this pattern on Ravelry. Have you ever made an afghan out of blocks that you sew together at the end? I haven’t, and I am hoping the sewing together part isn’t too bad.
When I was finishing up a square today, I snapped a picture which is my picture of the day. (No sense in making a separate post.)
This isn’t the best picture I have ever taken, but it captures just a glimpse of Janna nursing while I am crocheting. She tried to grab the camera, but never broke her latch. :)
She is a busy little girl, but I cherish the moments like this one. Watching her drift off into a peaceful sleep while snuggled close. Providing her with nourishment and comfort all at once. Such a sweet time…
