Last summer I shared a post each week about something we had done that was on our summer bucket list. While I called it a summer bucket “list” there really wasn’t a list at all. I basically just came up with activities on the fly.
This year I have put a little more thought into our summer activities and have actually come up with a list. I plan to do even more fun things with my kids and post about each activity.
However, this summer isn’t going to be about how many posts I can get out of the activities we do together. It is going to be about making memories and enjoying every moment.
My children are growing so fast and my oldest will soon be a teenager. I don’t want to wish the time away by feeling like I have to check a bunch of things off of a list.
We live in a Pinterest world where it is easy to feel like you aren’t doing enough. “Keeping up with the Joneses” takes on a whole new meaning when you see blog posts about all sorts of wonderful activities and crafts you could be doing with your children.
With that in mind, here is our summer bucket list. If we do everything on the list, great. If we don’t but still have fun, great. If we do more than what is on the list, greater still.
Fill a baby pool with bubbles and blow bubbles until we run out.- Play with ice that has toys frozen inside.
- Go to Disney World.
- Splash in the ocean.
- Attend the county fair.
- Play at a park.
- Visit a local historical museum.
- Go swimming.
- Have a picnic.
Go to the library. (We simply ran out of time, but we still did lots of reading.)Catch lightning bugs. (We never saw any this summer. Drought related?)- Read new books.
Roast hot dogs and make s’mores. (Our area was under a burn ban, so we will try this in the fall.)Take a hike in the woods.- Play in the creek.
- Host a pool party.
- Grow a garden and enjoy eating the fruits of our labor.
I think this is a good start and I am looking forward to all of the memories I will be making with my children.
Do you have a summer bucket list? Whether you do or not, what is something special you plan to do with your children this summer?
