A few months ago I posted a hat pattern and showed you a hat I had crocheted for Julia. I made a smaller version for Janna and wanted to tell you about the changes I made.
I used a bulky weight yarn with a J hook just like the original. However, I only increased to 40 stitches with a total of 12 rounds. I finished with a round of single crochet.
I think it fits Janna quite well with enough to fold up. This hat is going to be one of her Christmas presents.
Here is Janna modeling her new hat. At least she won’t remember that she has already seen it when Christmas morning comes. :)
I must say I cannot believe how big she is getting. 8 months old! How did that happen? She got her first tooth this week and made her first “real” crawling movements. (She could already get all over the place by rolling and scooting.) None of us can resist that cute little smile either. :)
Anyway, back to the hat. I crocheted another hat using the rest of the yarn. I made it the same way, but with only 10 rounds. I finished the hat with a round of chain 3, slip stitch into the next stitch, all the way around. That made for a slight lacy effect along the edge.
I’ve also been making hats for the boys. The two hats pictured will be for James and Joshua. I crocheted them using my original pattern, but I used a worsted weight and a sport weight yarn together. I think they turned out kind of cool. Sometimes you have to be ingenious when you are trying to not purchase yarn, but use what you have.
This is a hat I am making for Joseph. I am using 2 sport weight yarns with a J hook. His head is smaller, so it should work out just right.
I should have this hat finished tonight. Then it will be on to more Christmas crafting, sewing and crocheting. The countdown is on. Are you working on any homemade Christmas gifts?
