11 Weeks to a More Organized Life & Home: Week 10 (What’s for Dinner?)

Thank you for joining me for week 10 of trying to get my life and home more organized. I didn’t write a week 9 review post yesterday for a couple of reasons. First, everything I started to write sounded very negative. Second, I was making too many excuses.

Let me explain. When I started this series I had visions of actually having my life and home organized by the new year. My checklists were supposed to be totally completed each week with nothing left undone.

That just hasn’t happened, and I had started to be extremely critical of myself. We have been much busier outside of the home this past month than I care to be. Ballgames and programs, along with all of my homemade Christmas presents have taken a toll on my goals.

Yet, I need to focus on the positives of what I have accomplished. I have made some real progress despite my failings. So, with that in mind, I will forge ahead and make a new goal for this week.

I have titled this week’s goal “What’s for Dinner?”. What that really means is that I want to get back into a menu planning routine. When 5:00 o’clock rolls around I don’t want to be scrambling to figure out what we are going to eat.

These next two weeks aren’t going to be the easiest weeks to get back into the swing of menu planning due to holiday gatherings. However, I need to make a concerted effort to use our food resources wisely, and planning a menu is the best way to do that.

I am still trying to decide if having a theme each night would be best, like Taco Tuesday or Soupy Saturday. :) Or, if having a rotating menu (planning a month of meals and then repeating) would work for me. Maybe the traditional “plan a week’s worth of meals and then come up with a new menu next week” is best. That last one is what I have done in the past and it really isn’t my favorite thing to do. I think I am making this too hard.

Do you have any menu planning advice? How far ahead do you plan your menu? Weekly? Monthly? I would love to hear from you.

This week I am also going to be drinking 7 (8 oz.) glasses of water each day. I am so glad that I have been taking my time with this one and only adding 1 glass of water per week to my routine. I haven’t failed on this goal yet. Yay, for small victories!

I typically plan meals for the week, but with some meals I’ll double the recipe and freeze half for another week.

Thanks for sharing, Amber. I have doubled a recipe before, too.
