Stronger

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. -Philippians 4:13

A toilet that won’t flush.

A daughter with a lingering cough and now a rash.

Running behind.

A mile high pile of laundry on the couch.

This is the way my morning has been so far. Today is going to be a busy one with more running than I care for.

Sometimes we can be overwhelmed by all of the little things. I know we aren’t supposed to “sweat the small stuff”, but that is often easier said than done.

However, sometimes the things that overwhelm us aren’t so small.

4 Miscarriages

A mom who had breast cancer.

A brother who went to Iraq.

A child with food allergies and asthma.

I like to think of myself as an optimistic person for the most part. Somehow my parents raised me to look on the bright side and I am so thankful for that. It is that optimistic attitude, plus my faith in God and His love for me that help me through the dark times.

That is why I can say this:

I am thankful that God saw me through the miscarriages and allowed me to have 5 beautiful children.

I am thankful that my mom was able to beat breast cancer by having a mastectomy and no chemo or radiation.

I am thankful that my brother made it out of Iraq and home to end up getting married and having a baby.

I am thankful that Joshua handles his allergies with a generally positive attitude.

Without God, I am sure that I couldn’t say those things.

It is also why I can say I am thankful that my toilet is working, my daughter has an appointment to see the doctor later, I don’t feel like I’m running behind anymore, and the laundry, well, it’s still piled high. But, at least it is clean. :-)

So, today, if you are struggling with hard times I want you to know that you aren’t alone. We all face trials in our lives.

The key to getting through them is our attitude. Will we choose to wallow in our misery, or stand strong with Jesus at our side?

This morning the song “Stronger” came on the radio and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Maybe you could use this reminder today.
