Three weeks into this series and I am feeling really good about meeting my goals of reading the Bible for 15 minutes, getting dressed nicely, and exercising for 10 minutes each day.
Sometimes I feel like I am not making much progress by only trying to achieve one new goal each week. However, I think that trying to do to many new things at once is precisely why I usually fail when setting new goals.
Going at a slower pace is ensuring that the goals I am setting will become habits.
When I set this week’s goal, I thought that exercising for 10 minutes each day might be difficult. However, it has been easier for me than getting dressed nicely every day. Who would have thought?
The exercises I have chosen are a combination of stretches and things like “high knees”, sit-ups, and toe touches to name a few. Basically, I have been digging into the archives of my exercise repertoire to think of exercises to do. (AKA: Trying to remember all of the exercises we used to do in gym class.)
I wanted to share with you two of my favorite exercises of the week.
The first exercise involves using an 18 pound “weight”. The “weight” I am using will gradually weigh more as the months pass. It is a very cute “weight” that smiles at me while I use it. I highly recommend bench pressing with this type of weight. :-)
The second exercise requires a larger “weight” of approximately 37 pounds. Place the “weight” on your feet and stretch your legs out while keeping them straight. Count to ten. If you are lucky, your “weight” will count with you. Then, while holding onto the “weight’s” hands, drop your legs to the floor while doing a sit-up. Your “weight” will think this is great fun and ask you to do it over and over. :-) (My mom used to do this with my brother and I. We thought it was so much fun.)
These two exercises took up the majority of my 10 minutes of exercising yesterday, and I highly recommend them.
All kidding aside, involving your children in your exercise routine makes it all the more fun.
I something on Facebook earlier in the week, and thought I would tell about it here, too.
My husband and I had been talking about exercising when he decided we should have a sit-up contest. Our boys held onto our feet and I think I may have been at a disadvantage a few times because a certain cute 3 1/2 year old kept sitting on my belly.
Anyway, when all was said and done I was victorious by doing 31 sit-ups to my husband’s 27! We tend to be a little on the competitive side, but had a lot of family fun with this little challenge. :-)
Are you following along with me during this 11 week series? Did you start exercising this week? I would love to hear from you.
Tomorrow I will be sharing my goal for week 4. I hope you will join me.
