Fix It Up Friday: No-Sew T-Shirt Bag

Photobucket

Good morning! It is time for Fix It Up Friday again. I am so glad to have you join me. Thank you to those of you who linked up last week. If you are a blogger and have a creative post to link up, please do so. I always love to see what other people create. The guidelines can be found here. If you link up a post I will feature it on my Facebook page as well.

A few years ago I made some tote bags out of T-shirts. They were simple to make, but required the use of my sewing machine to stitch the bottom closed. My daughter and I decided that we wanted to make a slightly different version. Here is what we made.

She loves the fringe at the bottom and, even though she loves to sew, she liked that it was a no-sew project. She uses this bag to put her cross country clothes in.

The bag was originally a T-shirt that she loved. However, there was a bleached out spot near the neck that we have no idea where it came from. We decided this was a good size for a tote bag (girls 14/16).

First, Julia cut the bottom hem off of the T-shirt. Then she cut off the sleeves and the neck. She cut the neck of the shirt so that it was the same height in the front and the back.

Next, she measured 6 inches from the bottom and made cuts, through both layers, every 1/2 inch.

Then she double knotted the strips together. This not only closed the bottom of the bag, but it also added a fun element to what otherwise would have been a plain bag.

That’s all there was to it. This was a very simple and fun project for an otherwise lazy Saturday afternoon. Julia and I are on the lookout for more T-shirts to use for fun projects like this. We have quite a few ideas we want to try. :-)

Now it’s your turn to link up your creative post. I look forward to seeing all of your great ideas. The guidelines for linking up are here.

I have a love hate relationship with sewing. I’d love to be a more avid seamstress…but hate that I’m not organized enough to be! Make sense? Well, I’m just not organized enough to sew …and well it frustrates my efforts.
Anyway… this project is perfect. It is probably something I’ll do!

    So glad you shared it!

I totally understand what you are saying, Pat. If you saw my sewing table right now you would say I’m not organized enough to sew either. :) I hope you enjoy this project. Let me know if you do make one of the bags. Have a great weekend.
