How to Make Homemade Frozen Pizza

My daughter requested homemade pizza for her birthday dinner a couple of weeks ago. To make life simpler, I assembled the pizzas ahead of time and froze them. This was a real timesaver and allowed me to not feel rushed the day of her party.

The pizzas were made using my tried and true pizza crust recipe. I used a combination of whole wheat flour and unbleached flour since we were having company. However, for my family we have been using whole wheat flour for the past couple of years.

Pre-baking the crust for 10 minutes once it is in the pan has proven to be the best way for us to make homemade pizza. Then, we top the crusts with sauce and our favorite toppings. We cover them with plastic wrap, but have found shower caps are the perfect size to cover a pizza pan. Finally, we pop them into the freezer and they are ready to go when we need them.

When you wish to bake the frozen pizza simply put it into a 400 degree preheated oven for 15 + minutes (until cheese is melted and starting to slightly brown.

Below is my whole wheat pizza crust recipe that you can print out. Enjoy!

Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

Ingredients
  • 2 Cups Very Warm Water
  • 1 Tbsp. Yeast
  • 1 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 4 ½ – 5 Cups 100% Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 Tbsp. White Vinegar
Instructions
  1. Mix water, yeast, sugar and olive oil in a bowl.
  2. Let stand until bubbles form on top.
  3. Mix flour, salt, vinegar and wet ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
  4. Mix the dough until it forms a ball in the mixer.
  5. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  6. Divide the dough into two sections.
  7. Use a little flour to help roll out the dough.
  8. Press into two pizza pans.
  9. Pre-bake the crusts in a preheated 400 degree oven for 10 minutes.
  10. Remove from oven and add pizza sauce, toppings of choice, and shredded cheese.
  11. Bake for an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  12. Cut into slices and serve.
Notes
All-purpose or unbleached flour can be substituted for the whole wheat. Do not add the vinegar if not using whole wheat flour.
*Alternatively, the pizzas can be covered with plastic wrap or foil and frozen until ready to eat.
***You can use the dough before letting it rise, but the dough will work much better if it has been allowed to rise.

Cool! Where did you get the pizza pans? Are they aluminum or a heavier pan?

I hate to admit it, but those are actually disposable aluminum pans that we bought for the party to be easier on me.

I have used this recipe over and over again. I love it. It’s my company food as well as my go to recipe to take to a family with a new baby. I have even made this crust on the BBQ. It’s fantastic!

I am so glad you have found it useful over the years. I still haven’t tried your BBQ idea yet. Do you have any tops for using the grill to make this recipe? Also, how are you?
