Good morning! It is time for Fix It Up Friday again. I am so glad to have you join me. Thank you to those of you who linked up last week. If you are a blogger and have a creative post to link up, please do so. I always love to see what other people create.

Yesterday I made my daughter a sewing machine cover. At the time I wrote this post she hadn’t seen it yet.

This reversible cover was very simple to make. I found a post entitled 14 Sewing Machine Covers to Make over at TipNut. There were several tutorials for this style of cover, but I took a little creative license and didn’t follow any of them exactly.

I started by measuring Julia’s sewing machine. (Isn’t it cute? It was her birthday present from us last week. She has used it quite a bit this week.)

Based on the measurements of the sewing machine’s width, height, and length I decided to cut two coordinating pieces of fabric to a measurement of 30 inches x 18 inches.

I cut 4 pieces of coordinating ribbon to a length of 14 inches each. Since the ribbon was grosgrain, I heat sealed the edges by holding them close (but not too close) to the flame of a candle. I inserted the ribbon, 7 inches from each end, between the two layers of fabric.

I stitched the fabric, with right sides together, leaving a 5 inch opening on one end for turning.

This is what the sewing machine cover looked like when I was finished sewing. I hand stitched the opening closed, but I could have machine topstitched around the whole thing instead.

This is what the reverse side looks like. Because I used two coordinating fabrics, my daughter will be able to change the look whenever she wants. I found that the cover doesn’t need to be untied in order to remove it which will be easier.

That is one sewing project I have marked off of my to-do list. Next, I need to make Julia a new school bag. I hope to get that finished to share with you next week.

Now it’s your turn to link up your creative post. I look forward to seeing all of your great ideas. The guidelines for linking up are here.

Just the other day I was thinking I need a cover for my mixer and juicer. Of course my sewing machine can be added to that list. I like this one. Really cute. I will need to add it to my list too. Thanks.

Thanks! It was really easy to make, Rachel. I am thinking I need to use this method to make a cover for my mixer and blender, too.
