Fix It Up Friday: Baby Headband from Knee Highs Tutorial

Good morning!  It is time for Fix It Up Friday again.  I am so glad to have you join me.

Last week I shared some of the items that are decorating my home that have special meaning to me. Today I am going to share a tutorial for how to make a baby headband out of knee high stockings.

I have a thing for headbands. My oldest daughter wears one every day. I created a pattern for a crocheted headband, and I even shared a creative way to store baby headbands. Today I am at it again thanks to my sister-in-law.

A few weeks ago my sister-in-law made Janna a cute headband with a sweet bow on it. I asked her how she made it and she explained that she used a knee high stocking.  I thought it was so clever and decided to make another one using a flower.  Thus, a tutorial was born.

Here is the gratuitous "cute baby wearing the headband" shot to get you excited about my tutorial.  :-)

The supplies you will need are 1 knee high (33 cents for two at Walmart), thread, needle, scissors, and a hot glue gun.

1.  Cut the toe and band off of the ends of the knee high.

2.  Place one cut end of the knee high 1/4 inch over the other cut end so they overlap.

3.  Then, using a needle and thread make a running stitch through both layers of the knee high.

4.  Pull the stitches tight and then wrap the thread around three times pulling the thread tight each time.

5.  Tie off the thread twice by inserting the needle into the knee high and then pulling it through just slightly.  Then bring the needle through the loop and pull it tight.

6.  This is what you will have when you are done.  We just have a little more to do until our headband is complete.

7.  Take the band of the knee high and cut it to a width of about 1/2 inch.  Put a bead of hot glue on the middle of the headband and attach one end of the band to the glue.

8.  I folded over the other end and glued it down before I added another bead of glue to the headband.

9.  Now your headband is complete.  Because you didn't put glue everywhere under the center band part, you can now insert an alligator clip with a bow or flower on it through the center.  This provides endless possibilities for just one headband.

I decided I wanted to have a flower on this headband, so I used my needle nosed pliers to take apart an artificial flower.

I used three of the smallest petals and hot glued them back together.  Then I glued a button and a jewel to the center of the flower.

I opted to simply hot glue the flower to the headband because I didn't have any alligator clips (Note to self: Get some of those.)

What do you think?

I think it took me way longer to write this post than it did to make the headband.

I also think that I am going to be making lots more of these in other colors.

Now, it is your turn to link up your creative posts.  I look forward to seeing all of your great ideas. The guidelines for linking up are here.

I am linking this post to Strut Your Stuff Thursday.
