Fix It Up Friday: Mod Podged Nursery Artwork

Good morning!  It’s time for Fix It Up Friday again.  I’m so glad to have you join me.  There were some great ideas shared last week and I am looking forward to seeing what creative ideas will be linked to this week.  If you want to link up please read the guidelines here.

This week I want to once again feature one of the projects that was linked last week.  Christina of The Tattered Tag shared a cute way to repurpose an old cookie tin.

I love how she filled the tin with homemade egg shaped crayons. Two great repurposed projects in one.

Christina also hosts a weekly link party called K.I.S.S. Check it out and link up with her each Sunday.

Thank you Christina for sharing this fun idea. Also, thanks to everyone who linked up last week.

Last week I shared about the potential that the little nook in our master bedroom has to become a “room” for our new baby.  This week I wanted to share a project I completed to hang on the wall above the baby’s crib.

I started with a sanded 8 x 10 piece of thin plain plywood called lauan.  If you look closely you can see that I hot glued a pop tab to the back to serve as a picture hanger.

Next, I cut a piece of fabric to be the same size as the wood.  I applied a coat of Mod Podge to the wood and then another coat on top.  I decided to cut out four 1 1/2 inch squares of my coordinating fabric and Mod Podge them to the four corners.  I applied two more coats to the entire project.
When that was dry I printed out a large letter “J” from my word processing software.  I traced it onto the back side of an old cereal box and then gave it a few coats of white paint.  This was much cheaper than buying a wooden letter.
When the letter was dry I hot glued it, along with some trim, to the fabric covered piece of wood.  I hung it up above the crib and I am pleased with how it turned out.  (The picture makes the letter stand out a little more than it does in real life.)
This was a frugal project and definitely had several “fix it up” elements.  Plus, it will coordinate nicely with the curtain and crib skirt I am making using the same fabrics and trim.

The “room” is starting to come together. I couldn’t resist sharing a picture of my two oldest boys helping their Daddy put together the crib a few days ago.  They were actually much better helpers than their expressions show.  :-)

Now it is time for you to link up your creative post.  I can’t wait to see what you have to share this week.
