A New Year

I have been thinking a lot the past two days about what the year 2011 will bring.  At no other time in a year does the difference between two days seem greater.

The change in the date from December 31st to January 1st seems like a chance for a fresh start.  People often make resolutions or goals about what they intend to do in the new year.

My daughter asked us at supper last night what our New Year’s resolutions were.  I don’t like making resolutions because they can so easily be broken.  However, I do have some goals in mind for the upcoming year.

I would like to clean and organize the entire house.  I am praying I have a healthy and uneventful rest of my pregnancy.  I am also praying for a safe labor with the end result being my sweet little Janna being placed into my arms in April.  I want to spend time with my children and husband and have fun together.

However, all of the resolution making and goal setting in the world can’t make the difference in our lives that putting God at the center of all that we do can.

One of my best friends lost her father this week.  He died unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. At his funeral it was evident just how many lives he had touched.  Because he had long ago chosen to follow Jesus his family knows he is in Heaven.  They have been comforted in the knowledge that God is with them in their sorrow.

So any of the resolutions or goals I make for this new year should be secondary to the most important one I can ever have.  I want to make sure I am putting God at the center of my life. Then I will know that He is by my side during 2011 and always.  How about you?
