May Decluttering & Giving Totals

I am still plugging away trying to declutter our home and give away many things.  I met my goal for the year a few months ago, but there is still a lot of decluttering to be done.

I am not good about writing down every little thing that leaves the house.  Once I count everything and put it into a bag I don’t want to think about it anymore.

While our total for the month is less than we have had in previous months, I am still happy with the number.

174

That, combined with our totals from January, February, March, and April, brings the total number of items that have left our home for charity this year to 1205!

In addition to the items we gave away, we also sold 2 tote boxes full of girls clothes and my daughter sold her dollhouse.  I didn’t count these items, but I know it would have made our total much higher.

Speaking of my daughter, she got in a decluttering mode over the weekend.  She asked me to take before and after pictures of her room to share here.  I will preface this by saying that her floor normally doesn’t look this bad.  She had started emptying drawers before she asked me to take a picture.

Before

After

I just have to share this picture of Julia and James in Julia’s clean room.

I would love to think that in six more months I will be able to report that I have a clutter-free home.  There is just so much more that I want to do with my life than to spend time trying to organize clutter.

I am liking this post to The Finer Things in Life.

Your post is inspiring. I'm anxious to finish up our last days of homeschooling so I can get to some decluttering around here. Wow, a "clutter free" home sounds heavenly. Definitely something to shoot for.

Jackie once you are finished decluttering.. cleaning will be a breeze. Now I declutter every couple of months and it hardly takes any time. Great job teaching the kids too.

I just love that your daughter is "joining in"!! Here before and after pictures are great!!

As a child I was constantly decluttering my bedroom and I'd always try to get my sister to declutter and organize too!! It was fun to me!)

That is awesome! I'm trying to get my ds15 to declutter his room.

Still amazed with your progress, Jackie. Awesome that your daughter got involved, too!

Thanks everyone! It is definitely a process. It is somewhat embarrassing to share how much clutter we have in this house. However, it is good to have your encouragement and to be held accountable. Thanks again.
