I have been wanting to make myself a kitchen utensil holder since I made this one last year. This week I finally got the job done.
I made the utensil holder using a large tin can (The can measures 6 inches in diameter and is 7 inches high.), a placemat (14 inches x 20 inches), and my trusty glue gun.
The first thing I did was to lay the can on the placemat. I ended up with about 5 1/2 inches of placemat at the top of the can and about 1 1/2 inches at the bottom. I hot glued the placemat in place around the top and botton and where the two ends met at the center of the can. (Notice how I was able to match the stripes up.)
Then, I tucked the 5 1/2 inches of placemat inside the can opening and hot glued it in place.
At the bottom I made small cuts every 1-2 inches to make it easier to glue on the bottom part of the placemat.
Hot glue the bottom in place so that it looks like the picture above. That was all I had to do to make a frugal and functional utensil holder. It definitely brightens up my kitchen.
