Fun with Fleece & Flannel

Christmas break is over and the older two kids and my husband are back at school. We had a great time and I am sad they aren’t here. I am sure we will get back into the groove soon.

I made so many Christmas gifts this year that I haven’t been able to post about all of them yet. Below are some things I made using some flannel and fleece I purchased.

These fleece pants for all four kids were pretty easy. I made fleece waistbands instead of casings with elastic. I measured their waists and subtracted two inches. However, I don’t think that was enough for the older two. The pants were a little too loose at the waist. Maybe I just traced a baggier pair of pants. The kids like them though. For the pattern I just traced pairs of pants the kids already had and added a little extra for seam allowances.

I made these flannel pajama pants for the boys the same way I made the fleece pants.

This pink nightgown was made by tracing a nightgown my daughter already had. Then I cut up a long sleeved shirt that was too short for her. I used the sleeves and neckband as a quick way to finish the nightgown. The other reason I used a shirt was because I didn’t have any more of the flannel. :-)

The mittens were made using a tutorial I found online, but can’t seem to find again. I made the smallest pair to not have a thumb for my little guy who is one. I thought that would be easier for him.

I made quite a few fleece rice heat therapy bags. Each of the kids got one as well as some relatives. I made a separate bag out of cotton woven fabric to hold the rice. I then put that inside the fleece bag. (I added a couple of pinches of dried lavender with the rice.) Below is the poem I made up for the adults. If you use this please give credit or link back here.

You are in good shape;
Isn’t this true?
Still sometimes you might;
Get a pain or two.

So, if this is the case;
This bag you should heat,
And allow its warmth;
To give you a treat.

Lastly, I made a rag quilt kit for my daughter. She loves to sew and I thought it would be a fun winter project for the two of us. All of the squares were cut at 5 inches each. I still need to cut the inner layer using some flannel blankets that were given to me. I also included scissors, thread, and some instructions a fellow DSD member posted. When we finish the quilt I will be sure to post photos.

I will be posting more soon.
