Another week has passed and another habit has (hopefully) been formed. The progress is beginning to seem slow. I am only 4 weeks into this journey of being more organized in both my life and my home, but it feels like I should be farther along.
I have stated before that I believe the reason goals I have set in the past haven’t become habits is because I try to do too much too soon. I am trying to keep that in mind.
This past week I had a goal of getting 8 hours of sleep each night. I was able to meet that goal 6 out of 7 nights. The night I didn’t make it, I got 7 1/2 hours of sleep. Maybe the night I got almost 9 hours of sleep will make everything balance out. 🙂
I also had a goal of drinking one 8 ounce glass of water each day this week, and then I will add one glass each week until I am drinking eight glasses. This was an easy goal for me since I drink more water than that usually. However, it felt good to be able to check that off of my list each day. I am hopeful that going slow on this one will help me get properly hydrated and make drinking plenty of water a habit by the new year.
I did want to share that I have had a couple of fails lately. I didn’t exercise two days this past week. Now, I wasn’t sitting around eating bon-bons and doing nothing. I just didn’t do 10 minutes of focused exercising those days. I did notice a difference those days, so I am resolved to keep working on that goal.
Also, today was the first time in the past 3 weeks that I didn’t get dressed nicely. This was due to the fact that I was going to be doing some major cleaning in a room that had become a catch-all and didn’t want to get good clothes all messy. I thought it was a good reason. Plus, we usually don’t have visitors most of the time.
Wouldn’t you know it, we ended up with 3 sets of visitors. Granted they were family members, but still. My father-in-law, my parents, and my brother and his family all saw me with old clothes and my hair not fixed, just like I always used to. I think they were wondering if I really had been getting dressed each day like I said. I promise, this was the first day. 🙂
Enough about my failings. I want to focus on what I have accomplished during the past four weeks.
While reading my Bible for only 15 minutes each day, I have read 7 books of the Bible: Romans, Hebrews, Ruth, Esther, Daniel, Titus, and Acts as well as Proverbs 1 & 2 and the first 4 chapters of Matthew. It feels so good to be reading the Bible each day for a set amount of time.
I also am enjoying looking nicer (with the exception of today), exercising and getting more sleep. These daily goals are helping me get my life organized which will in turn give me more energy to get my home organized.
Check back tomorrow to see what my goal for week 5 is. Have you been following along with me or setting goals of your own? I would love to hear from you.
