This week I have been getting “dressed for success” by wearing nice clothes and fixing my hair. This was week #2 of trying to get my life and home organized before the new year.
I am happy to say that I met my goal, and for the past 7 days I have worn jeans, a nice shirt, and fixed my hair. I didn’t realize how tough it would be some days. There were a few days I really just wanted to stay in my comfy old clothes and do nothing with my hair. Yet, I stuck with it and that is a good feeling.
Most of my daily focus is on my family and the housework, and that is as it should be. However, if I don’t take care of myself, who will? If I can’t get myself organized how can I ever expect to keep my home in order, too? Reading my Bible for 15 minutes each day and getting dressedare just the beginning.
During this entire week I have also been working on cleaning out my closet and making some decisions about my wardrobe. I began by taking everything out of my closet and determined whether I would really wear the item or not.
I need to back track because I actually started this process before Janna was born and then stopped.
Here is what my closet looked like 7 months ago. I even had clothes hanging on a rod to the left where you can’t even see, not to mention everything on the floor. Yikes!
I donated these two bags full of clothes back in March. I was feeling pretty good about what I had accomplished, but wanted to wait to post about it until I had the closet totally cleaned out. I never got to post about it because it never got finished.
Fast forward to this week and I now have another 1 1/2 garbage bags full of things to donate. Plus, the bag on the right is full of maternity clothes that I need to decide what to do with.
Today I finally finished the task of cleaning out my closet and chest of drawers. Here is what my closet looks like today.
What? You mean I actually have a floor with carpet in my closet? I almost forgot. 🙂 I joke, but I am really quite embarrassed by how much I had let things go.
It still looks like there are a lot of clothes in there, and that is probably true compared to some people’s standards. But it really is pared down as evidenced by the garbage bags.
I divided my clothes into categories and plan to keep sweaters together, short sleeved shirts together, etc.
My favorite color is burgundy and I feel good wearing anything in the red/burgundy/pink family. I want to keep that in mind if I am ever clothes shopping, even at yard sales and the Goodwill. For example, I found a sweater on sale recently for $3 brand new. I really loved the colors and will enjoy wearing it this fall and winter. I even wore it for the pictures we took on Sunday in our backyard.
I even got my hair cut which makes styling it much easier, especially since I have naturally curly (unruly) hair. I think it is an improvement from this.
I definitely plan to keep getting dressed and fixing my hair each day. I will cut myself some slack if I am sick and stay in comfy clothes. I did save a few of my old clothes for situations like that.
Did you join me in getting “dressed for success” this week? I would love to hear from you.
