Last week I began reading the Bible for 15 minutes each day as I started trying to get my life and home organized before the new year. This week’s goal has to do with clothing.
Now, I am no fashionista. Quite frankly I don’t enjoy shopping for clothes. I think it stems from when I was a teenager and fashionable clothes for 6’1″ girls didn’t seem to exist.
Too many days I can be found looking like this.
My mom snapped this picture of a sweet moment when I was reading to Joseph while nursing Janna. It is a sweet picture, but look at me for a second.
Do you see the dried paint on my pants? I wasn’t even painting anything that day. My hair wasn’t fixed other than to throw it up in a bun. Plus, I don’t even have an upper undergarment on (If you know what I mean. I’m trying not embarrass my dad or brother here.).
This is my attire more often than not. If I need to go somewhere I have to change clothes and fix my hair first. I have been thinking a lot about this habit.
If I had a job outside of the home I would have to get up, get dressed in appropriate clothing and fix my hair. However, because I am home most days I somehow must think I am exempt from doing this.
Just because I don’t get paid doesn’t mean my job is any less important than if I worked outside the home. I used to be a teacher so I do know what working outside of the home is like. You have to look presentable and dress appropriately in the workplace.
I have decided that I need to take my job as full-time mom just as seriously. I need to dress for success even when I am only going to be seen by my husband and children. They deserve to see my at my best.
Now, this doesn’t mean that I am going to start buying all new clothes, wear lots of make-up and spend a lot of time on my hair each morning. I want to look nice, but not spend a lot of time or money doing so.
One of my plans this week is to go through my clothes and make some decisions about what I actually will wear. The other thing I plan to do is to wear jeans, a nice shirt (with appropriate undergarments) and fix my hair each day.
My job as a mom is important enough to take the time to look nice.
I have created a checklist for this week so that I can keep myself accountable as I continue to read the Bible and start dressing for success. You can print one by clicking the picture below.
Those of you who do not work outside of the home, do you ever find yourself looking like me? Is this something you would like to change? Let’s encourage each other to dress nicely each day.
Join me on Facebook each day where I will post each day when I have completed my goals.
