On Saturday I started planting the garden. Thanks to Janna taking a 1 1/2 hour nap and Julia watching her for a 1/2 an hour after she woke up, I was able to get our small garden plot and half of our big garden plot planted. My three boys were also a big help outside because they helped me plant and didn’t wake Janna up. 🙂
When Janna took a nap on Monday morning I was able to finish planting the large garden plot. It was a good thing I finished when I did because we had rain Monday evening and most of the day yesterday. I imagine it will be several days before I can get in the garden without sinking into mud up to my ankles.
Because I apparently don’t have enough to do in a day, I created garden maps in Photoshop. They aren’t to scale, but they will help me remember what I planted.
So, I thought I would share a picture of each of my garden spots followed by a picture of the map I made.
I took this picture just as the sun was coming up this morning. As you can see we got quite a bit of rain. The temperature is supposed to reach nearly 90 degrees today and there is a strong breeze. Maybe it will dry out quicker than I first thought.
This is the map I created of my large garden plot that you just saw in the picture above. I was able to squeeze quite a bit into this garden. I tried a different layout this year and I hope it works out well for the plants.
You will notice that where I planted the green beans it says “2 rows of green beans”. That is because I learned from a friend that you can plant two rows of green beans close together. This helps eliminate weeds in the middle since they are shading the small amount of space between them, plus it is a space saver.
I have a bit of space left between the corn and the blackberries. I am not sure if I will put anything there or not. Maybe I will plant some herbs or flowers there.
My husband enlarged our smaller garden plot this year. There are mostly potatoes in this garden.
Here is a map of what I planted in the small garden plot. I know there are 12 sweet potato plants, but I lost track of how many regular potatoes I planted. I know there were more than 24, at least I think there were.
It is always a good feeling to get the garden planted. We are looking forward to lots of yummy produce. Did you plant a garden this year? What did you plant?
