Our First Harvest
After our front garden spot spent much of last week under water, I was thrilled to be able to harvest a few things from our garden this week.
On Monday I shared on Facebook about the two zucchini and two cucumbers we harvested. I ended up frying the zucchini (a special treat) and it was wonderful.
I picked four more zucchini this morning. Just when I thought this year’s garden wasn’t going to amount to much, zucchini came to the rescue. 🙂
We’ve enjoyed a couple of fresh salads this past week thanks to our garden. Too bad I had to buy the tomatoes.
My Garden This Week (7-11-13)
I am happy to report that our garden is no longer under water. However, we had to pull up all but one tomato plant, all of our cabbage and broccoli, and most of our green beans because they had died from the flooding.
We purchased a couple of tomato plants and put them in 5 gallon buckets with holes drilled in the bottom. They were so long and probably root bound from being in a small pot for months, but we are giving it a try.
The first two rows of corn I planted are tassling but I don’t see ears forming. I’m not giving up hope yet, though. They do look distressed at the bottom because they sat in water for several days.
My back garden spot is doing pretty well and that is where my zucchini and cucumbers are.
The potato towers are still growing and have started flowering.
It looks like we may get quite a few more zucchini this year and I am so happy about that.
How is your garden growing this week?
