Today we continued our study of the letter “B”. I started the morning by reading the book Once Upon a Banana by Jennifer Armstrong. This mostly wordless book shows what results after a monkey carelessly tosses a banana peel on the sidewalk. There is lots of action on each page and the children liked trying to figure out what was going to happen next.
Next, we made letter “B’s” out of bananas. I printed four bananas and a rectangle for each child. I asked the children to color all of the pieces yellow. After cutting them out I helped the children glue them to a blue piece of paper using two bananas for each circle of the “B”. If you want to use the pieces I made you can download them here. (Banana Letter B Pieces) I found this idea at No Time For Flashcards.
Of course, we ate bananas for our snack and counted how many bananas were in the bunch.
Later, the children glued beans to these letter “Bb” papers from DLTK. These pages will go in their alphabet binders.
Finally, we made beaded bracelets to go with our “B” theme. I like to use pipe cleaners for the bracelets because they make stringing the beads easier for little fingers. This is a great way to get some fine motor skills practice in a fun way.
We had a great morning and will finish our study of the letter “B” on Friday.
