Let Your Light Shine

The summer James was nine months old one of the songs we sang at Bible school was “This Little Light of Mine”.

My sweet baby learned to hold up one finger and wave it in the air whenever we sang that song. If we weren’t singing and he wanted to hear the song he would hold up his tiny finger in anticipation of hearing it.

One morning recently I was driving the kids to school and Josh Wilson’s “Pushing Back the Dark” came on the radio.

As we were singing along I was reminded of my little baby James holding up his finger to shine his light.

I was thinking of how easy it is to teach little ones to let their light shine for Jesus but how much harder it can be as we get older.

There have been many times through the years when my “little light” has been dimmed by my words and actions.

I know I am not always a shining example of God’s love and sometimes I wonder if I am making a difference in this world at all.

One million reasons why, you shouldn’t even try. After all you’re just one heart, a single candle in the dark. And there are shadows here, feeding on your fears, that you don’t have what it takes – who are you to make a change?

I think we all have times when we doubt ourselves and we let the darkness start to creep in.

We wonder if we are doing well enough at our jobs, in our marriages, raising our children, housekeeping, and more.

We start to question ourselves and ask “What if?”.

When those shadows of doubt creep in just push them back and keep on shining.

Oh, oh, don’t underestimate the God you follow. He is the light that burns inside your soul, so keep on shining ’til the whole world knows.

Whatever you do, just don’t look back. Oh, somebody needs the light you have. Whatever you do, just don’t lose heart. Keep on pushing back the dark, just keep on pushing back the dark, dark.

Let Your Light Shine

Don’t let the darkness win. You were put here for such a time as this. Let your light shine because someone needs the light you have.

P.S. I started to write this post months ago and I revised it 21 times because I felt like it just wasn’t good enough. I almost didn’t post it at all. I was letting those doubts creep in.

I decided to post this today because I don’t want to let the darkness win. I want to let my light shine.

I hope you will let your light shine, too.

But what a beautiful post! And just what I needed today. It is so easy to question ourselves…to doubt . So very thankful for the light that is in HIM. Thank you for a lovely post. Blessings and Sunshine, Valerie
