I have felt like a broken record the past few weeks with regards to my garden update posts but I will say it again anyway. We are still in a drought and are in desperate need of rain.
Because of this fact, I asked my husband to set up a few sprinklers for the garden because I was having a hard time keeping up with the watering in our 100+ degree weather. I think it is helping.
Watering the garden is the only thing making it look like an oasis in the middle of our dry, desert-like yard.
One of my hills of zucchini is dying, but the other hill is going strong. I am still harvesting green beans and a few tiny heads of broccoli. I was especially excited to find our first red tomato last night only to find it looked like this.
Several of my Brandywine tomatoes (My first year for them.) are doing this. I need to do some research about why this is happening. Have you ever had this happen?
I think this cabbage is just about ready to pick. Fresh coleslaw will probably be on the menu next week. Yum!
Here’s Janna with the corn in her swimming suit again this week. You are going to think that is all she wears. 🙂 However, it has been so hot that working in the garden after a dip in the pool is the coolest way to work.
When I was picking zucchini last night I found that a couple of them must have hidden behind some leaves the last time I picked because they were huge. With zucchini, bigger doesn’t mean better. However, I can scoop the seeds out and they will work just fine.
My back garden spot is looking a little better thanks to our watering. The sweet potatoes are finally starting to spread out.
I am finally starting to harvest some cucumbers but a few of them got a little too big like the zucchini. I am not sure how I will use them yet.
That’s a look at my garden this week. How is your garden growing?
