10 Random Things About Me

Guess what?

What?

Today is my 5th blogiversary.

Blogiwhatary?

The 5th anniversary of the first blog post I ever wrote.

Oh.

Yeah, I totally just had a conversation with myself. I thought it might help add to my post. It just made me seem weird? That’s alright. I am kind of strange.

Quite frankly, we bloggers have to be a little strange to write about our lives, hobbies, etc. and assume that there are people who actually read and care about what we write. :)

I am not sure if you have ever looked back at any of my old posts, but my very first post was written on August 2, 2007. I had just come home from my mid-pregnancy ultrasound with Joseph and thought I would start a blog. The title of my first post was “ultrasound“.

Things have changed a lot around here since then; hopefully, for the better.

Sometimes I wonder what keeps me writing several posts a week. It isn’t for fame, money, or glory. If that was my motivation I wouldn’t be writing this post at all.

No, I write because it’s therapeutic for me. I have 5 children. I live out in the country. Days can go by when I don’t see anyone outside of the 6 people who live in this house with me. When I write a blog post I can connect with people outside of my little corner of the world.

So, thanks for reading what I write. You make my day when you leave a comment or like something I have posted on Facebook.

Since the title of this post is “10 Random Things About Me”, I better get on with it. Without further ado…

10 Random Things About Me (AKA: 10 Things You Didn’t Know You Didn’t Know About Me)

1. I had a cat named “Rainbow” for 17 years. I called her “Rainbow” because she was three (brown, black, & white)  colors. I used to put makeup on her and put clothes on her. I loved that cat.

2. I think toilet paper should come off the roll over the top.

3. Before my brother was born, I had imaginary friends named Juggle, Susie, and Mark.

4. I prefer crunchy peanut butter over creamy. I often eat it as a snack mixed with either honey or chocolate chips but not both at the same time.

5. I got sick on my honeymoon. I barely remember walking around Epcot and slept through our last evening at Disney World.

6. I once received a letter from Harvard asking me to consider playing basketball for them.

7. According to Netflix I like to watch “Romantic British Period Pieces with Strong Female Leads”.

8. I like to eat the clumps of brown sugar from the bag. It’s like finding buried treasure.

9. I put together a tunnel slide for my kids on Sunday. (I had a little help from James and my mom.) It was hot out and there were about 1 million nuts and bolts, but I got it done. And, I have a picture to prove it.

Well, the picture doesn’t actually prove anything more than that I was standing near something that was big and yellow. You’ll just have to trust me, I guess.

Finally…

10. I am 6’1″ without shoes. My husband is 5’9″ with shoes. After our first date I told my mom I didn’t want to go out with him again because he was so short. She told me that if he asked me out again I should go. 16 1/2 years of marriage and 5 kids later I guess it must have been pretty good advice. Thanks, Mom! :)

Thank you for joining me on this journey and allowing me to be so random. I would love it if you left me a comment so I know you are out there. Maybe tell me something random about yourself or if there is anything on my list you can relate to.

  • Sandy T.

Loved reading about you… I always find it interesting to find out facts about fellow bloggers! I can totally relate to the toilet paper one… in my house it HAS to come off the roll over the top. I have a SIL who when she comes to visit insists on changing all the toilet paper in my house to roll under… drives me crazy!!
Happy 5 years… and many more to come. I love reading about you and your family :)

Thank you so much, Sandy! How funny that your SIL changes the toilet paper. I have never done that to anyone who likes their TP to roll under. That’s is hilarious but probably frustrating to you. :)

  • QWERTY

    5-10 with shoes I think!

Thanks so much, Melody! Lol, about the t.p. and p.b. :)

Yes, happy blogiversary! I enjoy your blog.

Funny, we have been married 17 years and have 5 kids. I also live out in the country and sometimes only see those in the household for days on end. I agree with you on the toilet paper roll. Lastly, I also like to eat the clumps from the brown sugar.

    • http://www.blessingsoverflowing.com/ Jackie

Thank you, Rachel! That is funny that we have the same number of kids and have almost been married the same amount of time. I’m glad to know we have so many things in common. Thanks for always being a regular commenter. :)

  • Sheila

You have to tell more about the basketball story! Enjoyed this as well as all your posts. Happy blog anniversary!

    • http://www.blessingsoverflowing.com/ Jackie

Thanks, Sheila! I may have to write a post about my basketball days sometime. I still have that letter. :)

      That’s great, Becky! :)

  • Dad

I think I knew most of those 10 things, some we share (crunchy peanut butter), I remember Rainbow and Juggle, Susie and Mark and I have loved every moment of your life and the woman you have become. P. S. QWERTY?

    • http://www.blessingsoverflowing.com/ Jackie

Thank you so much, Dad! I am so blessed to have such wonderful parents. :) QWERTY is some computer lingo. Take a look at your keyboard on the top row of letters.

  • Katie

I will have to write a post about my basketball days sometime. :)

  • Lisa

Your blog has interested me into having a larger garden next year and preserving some food, this year only the sunflowers are looking nice.
Random about me: as a child I gave myself two black eyes, I started wearing glasses shortly after the second time.

    • http://www.blessingsoverflowing.com/ Jackie

Thanks so much for sharing, Lisa! How did you give yourself two black eyes?

I think this year wasn’t a good gardening year for many people. Goodluck with your larger garden next year.

  • Melinda

I didn’t know about the Harvard letter! Wow! You think you know someone?! I did know about the mythical “Rainbow” who was always supposedly “hiding” when we were there. (Granted, If she really did exist I can’t blame her for hiding from the “gang”) I think she was just another of your imaginary friends. ;) I am very Thankful I get to be one of your non-imaginary friends! I Love you guys! P.S. Anytime you want me to post dumb quotes…just let me know…

    • http://www.blessingsoverflowing.com/ Jackie

Melinda, I never really talked to anyone about all of the letters I got from colleges. I knew I didn’t want to play basketball after high school and just didn’t make a big deal about it. I did save some of the letters though and I will have to scan that one in and share it here since it seems to be something people are interested in knowing more about. :)

Rainbow was definitely real and I used to say she was my sister.

I am glad you were, and still are, one of my real friends. And no, I don’t think we need any of my dumb quotes shared. ;)
